Going matchy matchy - how to style matching colours

It is not new that matching colours (using similar colours throughout your outfit) always works one way or another. In fact it used to be a trend back in the 80s…. Nowadays, just the fact of putting similar hues together can make you afraid of falling into the boring or just not fashionable enough.

Let me tell you that is not true!

Bearing in mind that we refer to a look that involves more than 1 piece (it is not fair if you wear a dress, that’s easy ladies!). If you want to create this kind of look you need to follow these simple steps:

  1. Use a neutral or pastel colour. Do you remember the post on total white? Why neutral? Because if you wear two or more strong colours in your outfit, you may look like a focal point in the street
  2. Choose garments that have volume, texture or funky shapes. For example: asymmetrical
  3. Use another colour - neutral or metallic - for the accessories. More than 3 pieces with the same colour is always too much
  4. Don’t overuse accessories, to keep the outfit plain and minimal

As you can see, this time I used navy blue as the one colour to wear. I create a simple look, but really elegant and sophisticated. It almost looks like a dress right? I mix pieces that have particular shapes to create an outfit outside of the box to the elbow.
